Who we are

A small studio, rooted in Montana.

Boulder River Media is a small studio out of Billings, Montana. We were founded by two friends who grew up here, John Maxwell and Michael Dienhart, and built around a belief that the businesses, candidates, and creators of the Mountain West deserve websites worthy of the work behind them.

John runs the studio day to day and leads most of the projects that come through the door. Michael, based in Denver, spends his career in technology and keeps the studio on the front edge of how the web is actually being built. Together, that's who we are: rooted in Montana, fluent in the tools shaping the next decade of the internet, and ready to bring both to whatever you're working on.

What we believe is simple: a website is one of the most important things a small business will ever own.

Whether you're opening your first shop, running for office, or finally giving the business you've spent twenty years building the website it deserves, we'd love to hear about it. We're here to help you bring it to life.

What we build

The full range, built to the same standard.

Microsites and event pages

Some sites only need to do one thing. A grand opening, a product launch, a wedding weekend, a personal brand. We build the kind of focused page that earns the attention you've spent weeks generating, and gives a visitor exactly what they came for without a single distraction. Less is rarely easier to make. We're good at it anyway.

Small business websites

This is the heart of what we do. The kind of site that tells the story of a business that you've poured your life into, in a way that the right customer recognizes themselves in within the first ten seconds. Written by people, designed for the screen in your customer's hand, and built to load fast for someone who's deciding right now whether to call you or your competitor. We don't do template feel. We don't do “About” pages stuffed with buzzwords. We do the version of your business you've always wanted the world to see.

Political and advocacy campaigns

Campaigns are won and lost in moments. A late-breaking endorsement, a viral clip, a debate-night surge. Your site has to be ready when those moments arrive, and it has to make donating, signing up, or showing up feel like the obvious next step. We build for candidates, ballot initiatives, and advocacy groups who can't afford a website that wobbles on the night that matters most.

Larger projects

When the work is bigger, we scale the process to match. Multiple stakeholders, multiple departments, content that has to keep moving long after launch. The studio stays the same size on purpose, which means a senior pair of hands on every part of the build, and a site that holds up to the kind of attention a larger company actually gets.

Dreams we helped build

We get your work in front of the world while the momentum is still yours.

Your dreams don't have time to wait.

We know how to win elections.

Campaigns run on speed and precision. Donations, volunteers, momentum — every hour matters, and a website that wobbles on launch night can cost you the race. We've spent ten years in Montana politics, and we know what a campaign site has to do. We'll carry your message to your district, your city, your county, your state, or the whole country.

Protected, Secure Parking Billings CPR · 2026

Shuttle service for Billings fliers, the way it should be.

Full security. Weather protection. A price that beats the airport itself. The kind of business that has made our city a better place to travel. Their entire operation runs through this website — every booking, every customer, every dollar. Ease of use was priority number one and exemplifies the product of the business. We helped them bring it to life, and watched them take Billings by storm.

Nearly fifty years of reputation, finally online.

A nearly fifty-year-old Montana service company with a reputation built decades before the internet existed. We were brought in to rebuild a website that no longer reflected the business and wasn't showing up for the customers searching for it. We restructured the site around how their customers actually search, modernized the look to match a company at their scale, and laid an SEO foundation that's finally bringing them the online traffic their reputation has earned. The new site does the work the old one couldn't.

How it works

Four short steps,
no surprises in between.

  1. 01

    You send a brief

    Day 0 · same-day reply

A few honest answers about your business, your customers, and what you want this site to do. We write back the same day to set up a consultation, so we can hear the rest in your own words.

  2. 02

    A simple, clear plan

    Days 1–3

A short, easy-to-read outline of what your site will look like, how it will sound, and what it will do. No design jargon, no homework. Just a plan you can read in five minutes and feel good about.

  3. 03

    We start building

    Days 3–10

A live link from day one. Your real words, your real content, going in as we go. You watch it come together instead of waiting two weeks for static mockups of someone else's idea of you.

  4. 04

    Launch and hand-off

    Days 10–14

Final polish, content loaded, a calm hand-off. After launch, questions get answered in hours, not in ticket numbers. The site is yours, and so are we, when you need us.

Start when you're ready.

A short brief. A same-day reply. A site you'll actually be proud of.
